Want to know more about volunteering? We have the answers to your Frequently Asked Questions here.
Q: How flexible are the volunteer shifts?
A: Each shift runs for two hours but you can choose to stay longer. Some volunteers do the same shift every week and others pick up shifts when they can depending on their schedule.
Q: Will I be left on my own?
A: You will not be alone during your shift. At first you will be buddied up with one of our friendly front of house team, but we will encourage you to find you own place. We won’t throw you in the deep in and will always be there to support you.
Q: I don’t know anything about birds, animals or conservation. Do I need to?
A: You don’t need to know anything about wildlife or conservation in Aotearoa, we will teach you all you need to know and more!
Q: What will be my main tasks in a shift?
A: We are looking for people to be a friendly face to the visitors and help show them around our centre. Our centre is the first of its kind and we want to share our stories with the public.
Q: Can I handle the wildlife?
A: Unfortunately, no. We leave the handling of the animals to our trained Wildlife Technicians.
Q: Are you looking for volunteers during other times of the year?
A: We are looking for volunteers to help us out
for the summer right now, but our centre is always happy to have more volunteers on board throughout the year.
